The Mayor’s role

  • Act as Chief Executive Officer of the Municipality
  • Provide leadership to Council
  • Preside over Council meetings
  • Represent the Municipality at official functions
  • Act as Council’s representative when dealing with other levels of government, their agencies and the private sector and the media
  • Carry out the duties of the Municipal Act or any other Act

Council’s role

  • Represent the public and to consider the well-being and the interests of the Municipality
  • Develop and evaluate the policies and programs of the Municipality
  • Subject to legislative restrictions, to develop regulations to be adopted in by-laws and resolutions for the overall benefit of the community
  • Determine the services the Municipality provides in accordance with applicable legislation
  • Ensure that administrative practices and procedures are in place to implement the decisions of Council
  • Maintain the financial integrity of the Municipality
  • Carry out the duties Council under the Municipal Act or any other Act
